Ultimate Cheesy Beef Lasagna

Ingredients
  

Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 24 oz jar marinara sauce
  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
Cheese Filling
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
Lasagna
  • 9 lasagna noodles cooked according to package directions
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Extra parsley for garnish

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add marinara sauce, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and parsley.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer:
  7. 3 lasagna noodles
  8. Half the ricotta mixture
  9. One-third of the meat sauce
  10. 1 cup mozzarella
  11. Repeat the layers once more.
  12. Finish with the remaining noodles, meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  13. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  14. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  15. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
  16. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.
Notes
  1. Letting the lasagna rest makes slicing much easier.
  2. You can assemble it a day ahead and refrigerate before baking.
  3. Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months
