Swedish Meatballs with Creamy Garlic Parmesan Gravy

Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs
  • pounds lean ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 small onion finely grated
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Creamy Garlic Parmesan Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Method
 

Step 1
  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, grated onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Step 2
  1. Roll into 1½-inch meatballs.
Step 3
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Brown the meatballs for about 8–10 minutes, turning often until nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
Step 4
  1. Reduce heat to medium.
  2. Melt butter in the same skillet and sauté the mushrooms until golden.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  1. Sprinkle in the flour and stir constantly for 1 minute.
Step 6
  1. Slowly whisk in the beef broth until smooth.
  2. Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, thyme, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Cook until the gravy becomes silky and slightly thickened.
Step 7
  1. Return the meatballs to the skillet.
  2. Cover and simmer for 12–15 minutes until fully cooked and coated in the creamy gravy.
Step 8
  1. Garnish generously with chopped parsley and extra Parmesan.
  2. Serve over mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or rice.
