Ingredients
  

  • ***For the Chicken
  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ***For the French Onion Sauce
  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly slicedr,
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • cups beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ***Cheese Topping
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ***Garnish
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Method
 

Step 1:
  1. Season the Chicken. Pat the chicken dry.
  2. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
Step 2:
  1. Sear the Chicken. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
Step 3:
  1. Caramelize the Onions. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter and onions.
  2. Cook slowly for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep golden brown and caramelized.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Step 4:
  1. Make the Sauce. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Pour in beef broth.
  2. Bring to a simmer. Mix cornstarch and water. Add to the skillet and stir until thickened.
  3. Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream.
Step 5:
  1. Return the Chicken. Nestle chicken back into the skillet.
  2. Spoon onions and sauce over the chicken.
Step 6:
  1. Add Cheese. Sprinkle Gruyère and mozzarella evenly over the chicken.
Step 7:
  1. Broil: Place skillet under the broiler for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
Step 8:
  1. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
