Method
Prepare the Apples
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla until evenly coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture to a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make the Crisp Topping
- In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until coarse crumbs form.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Allow the crisp to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
